The Energy, Economy and System Dynamics Group (GEEDS) at the University of Valladolid is composed of a group of professors and researchers with previous experience in environmental issues and personal involvement in ecology and development cooperation. Their lines of research focus on energy and economics as key drivers of technology and life, and on system dynamics as the most appropriate tool for analysing the complex relationships between the variables that influence sustainability and development, with a systemic vision. The group GEEDS from the University of Valladolid is in charge of the modelling part of the project. In particular, the team will develop a system dynamics model of the local case studies, capitalising on the experience accumulated over the years in the past (MEDEAS) and in ongoing (LOCOMOTION) international projects in which the group had and has a leading modelling role.

The mission of the CMCC is to study and model our climate system and its interactions with society to provide reliable, rigorous and timely scientific results that will in turn promote sustainable growth, protect the environment and develop science-based adaptation and mitigation measures in a changing climate. The CMCC works with experienced scientists, economists and technicians to provide comprehensive analyses of climate impacts on various systems such as agriculture, ecosystems, coasts, water resources, health and the economy. The CMCC supports policy makers in developing sound climate change mitigation and adaptation policies. CMCC will be responsible for developing a catalogue of Land use-based Adaptation and Mitigation Solutions (LAMS) and will contribute to the analysis of synergies and trade-offs among the selected solutions, considering the environment, social and economic dimensions of sustainable development and the link with Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, CMCC will be responsible for identifying relevant climate variables for land use planning taking into account expected climate changes and contribute to mapping such variables using downscaling methods. Finally, CMCC will contribute to the definition of the pan-European database and its integration together with the LAMS catalogue into the integrated assessment platform RethinkAction.

The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) is a Greek research center that has made remarkable achievements in the field of space science and its applications with remarkable achievements. NOA, with its three institutes (Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing IAASARS; Environmental Research and Sustainable Development IERSD; Geodynamics GI), its highly qualified human resources and the important infrastructure has made it important in international space research. NOA plays a leading role in national efforts to establish a presence in the European space sector. Moreover NOA is also an important national link to the European Space Agency (ESA) and other relevant organisations and institutions within the European Union. NOA will be integrating large volumes of satellite-derived data sets from Copernicus and ESA. Variables include land cover, soil moisture, temperature, precipitation, just to mention a few relevant to RethinkAction. NOA will collect the needs of the case-study partners to assure appropriate data management throughout the different phases of the project.
